Midnight ended up
trusting the Trouties. It wasn’t as hard
as it seemed. After all, like I said,
Dr. Barney was a huge help. It was amazing
how calm and reasonable he was and he didn’t even have to yell at Midnight at
all. He was a lot better with that than
I would have been. It was a good thing
he was around and not over with the other kitties shoving that catnip cake in
his mouth.
Speaking of that, you will never believe how silly all of
the catnip crew were acting. Smokey was
doing tons of giggle purrs and whatever was making her do it caused her to fall
on her butt and roll around. To top it
all off, all of the giggle purring was getting louder and louder.
The Sheriff even was
wondering what was so funny but the Mayor was maintaining a sense of calmness
and was all business.
He got Midnight to tell him what happened that night all
the way from the beginning. I was surprised
at how much the kitty remembered. She
was so scared that night, which was understandable, and I would’ve thought that
she forgot a lot of stuff. I was glad to
be wrong. Maybe we would be able to find
this human that killed her owner after all.
The Mayor was very thorough in the questioning. No one even had to ask anything. It was like he was reading my mind. I liked watching the Sheriff during this
questioning session too. He just stood
aside with a smug look on his face and the whiskers twitching too.
In the meantime, Midnight was all wound up. The more she answered, the more wound up she
got too. It was amazing how much she
knew about this human and the more she talked it sounded like that this whole
thing might have been about animals!
According to Midnight, this human sounded like she abused animals and
that her owner was going to turn her in, and that’s why she killed her!
And that bought up the obvious question: how did Midnight
end up getting away?
